Texture Map

I think this is the part of Stylemaker and designing that confuses new designers the most.

You are probably asking, "Well, I made my avie the way you said to, but how do I make or where do I find a template

to paint my design on?"  That is simple to answer.

Remember do not close down your Stylemaker.

Look at the top of your StyleMaker, and you will see a tab called Item.

Click on Item, and click on the item you want to make a texture map (wire frame) for. We will use Top. Your settings from the top we create will still be there. Now go to Mesh. This is what your avie is wearing.

This is the Mesh Tab

These are the details to the top your avie is now wearing, or what you create/created for her.

Texture Tab

This is where you may want to play a bit...Go ahead, you can't hurt anything. Just don't change the resolution for this tutorial. You will see your texture map in the window. If you have a texture painted, you will want to open it here. But for now, you won't do anything, except go to Details.

This tab is Details.

The details tab is for creating your texture map. Click on Wire Frame Save As. Call this tutorial texture DanceTopWF when you save it to the folder you will have your painted textures in. Then click on Save as for Fig Leaf. Fig Leaf is the guide that will show you where NOT to paint any skintone color. Save it as DanceTopFL (FL for Fig Leaf). You can call them anything you want, but that is what I would do.

Now you should have what looks like this:

Click on the picture to make it larger.

If you had created a Mockneck top, you would have a texture looking like this:

Click on the picture to make it larger.

The Fig Leaf looks like this:

Click on the picture to make it larger.

Congratulations, you have now created your texture map! Happy painting.

One you have began to paint your texture template, and want to see what it looks like, just save your work into your

folder, and open it in Stylemaker, by going to Item. But always make your texture first if not using the examples from

this tutorial.

Another quick note:  Don't ever call your painted template the same name as the wire frame or Fig Leaf texture. Always change

it, and save it as a .png.  Don't use .jpg's for your painted StyleMaker painted textures. If you do, the quality will not be as good.

To add a texture to your avie that is different from what we have here: Create a texture on the top or other item. Save it to your file as

as .png. Always save a .psd and/or .psp file too so you have the layered copy.  Click on Item. Click on Texture. Remember that

box that had the texture in it?  Now click on Browse and find your .png file that you have painted. Click OK.  Your painted texture

should appear on the avie in StyleMaker.

When you paint your wire frame texture be sure to use layers. They will be one of your best friends.

Be sure to extend your texture outside the wire frame. If you do not do this, when a heavy set avatar may see seams burst

open.

Now it's time to show you how to move your avie

How to Move Your Avatar

Have you been wondering how you can move your avatar for different views?

Here is how to move her:

Right click your mouse to move her side to side or up and down.

Ctrl + Right Click will move her forward and back.

Ctrl + Left Click will move her around in a circle, so if you want her to hang upside down, this is the way to do it.

Shift + Left  Click or just mouse click left, you will be able to move her into any position.  You may find this to be

a bit strange at first.

Happy Avie Moving!
